About Us:
Established by Cassandra Harada, Made To is a tiny cooperative of artisans, and crafts people who are petitioning the world to slow down and think about why we wear what we wear. We make hand-knitted, and hand-sewn clothing that are built to last, be worn heavily, and be the first garment you reach for, no matter the season. We’re here to bask in the glory of the processes that build our wardrobes. If you are a handmaker, or interested in craftsmanship, please visit us now and again to peek in at our “thoughts” on why we’re making what we’re making.
Made Toは、職人やクラフトマンの小さな協同組合である。私たちは手編み、手縫いで、長持ちし、ヘビロテされ、季節を問わず最初に手に取る服になるような服を作っています。私たちはここで、私たちのワードローブを構築するプロセスの栄光に酔いしれる。もしあなたがハンドメーカーなら、あるいはクラフトマンシップに興味があるなら、時々私たちを訪れて、私たちがなぜこのようなものを作っているのか、私たちの「思い」を覗いてみてください。
We are also here to have a conversation about what is just, equitable, sustainable and right in a world where everything we consume feels disposable, and is of mysterious origin. While we'd like to talk deeply about these things, we also believe shame doesn't belong in this exchange. (Lets face it, we all own at least one '$3 T-shirt') Here, we just want to encourage our customers and friends to do the best they can to understand ethical fashion choices, and strike a balance in their consumption between 'new and exciting' and 'comfort and familiarity
私たちはまた、私たちが消費するものすべてが使い捨てのように感じられ、その起源が謎に包まれている世界において、何が公正で、公平で、持続可能で、正しいことなのかについて話し合うためにここにいる。このようなことについて深く語り合いたいと思う一方で、私たちはこのやりとりに恥はふさわしくないと信じている。(エシカルなファッションの選択について理解し、「新しくて刺激的なもの」と「着心地が良くて慣れ親しんだもの」の間でバランスを取りながら消費するよう、顧客や友人たちにできる限りの努力を促したい。
About Cassandra Harada:
Cassandra Harada is a lifetime maker of things. Cassandra holds a bachelor's degree in fine arts and printmaking, but In 2006 she moved to Tokyo and realized quickly that there wasn’t much space for 2D art in the traditional sense, so felt compelled to move toward a more utilitarian outlet to satisfy her drive to make. She spent 10 years of her career teaching handknitting in her small shop in West Tokyo but ultimately desired a close working relationship with other master craftspeople. In 2019 she began studying with Master Teruo Hirokawa, and doing what she could to become a competent trouser maker. She still writes the occasional knitting pattern for yarn companies and magazines, and is also involved in yarn design.
Cassandra Haradaについて
Cassandra Haradaは、ものをつくることを生涯の仕事としてきた作り手です。
美術学部でファインアートと版画を学び、学士号を取得。2006年に東京へ移り住んだ後、伝統的な意味での「二次元のアート」を制作するための環境が、東京では自分が思っていたほど身近ではないことに気づきました。そこで、つくりたいという自身の欲求を満たすため、より実用的なものづくりへと自然に活動の軸を移していきました。
その後10年間、西東京で営む小さなショップで手編みを教える仕事に携わりましたが、やがて、他の熟練した職人たちとより密接に関わりながら仕事をしたいと考えるようになりました。
2019年からは、仕立て職人・廣川輝夫氏に師事し、トラウザーズ（パンツ）の仕立て職人として一人前になるべく、技術を磨いています。
現在も、糸メーカーや雑誌のために時折編み物のパターンを制作するほか、糸のデザインにも携わっています。
